Under the direction and leadership of the Senior Facilities Manager, we are seeking a Maintenance Manager to join our Richardson Lodge project located 80Kms north of Fort McMurray. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for smooth operation of the assigned portfolio by directing all “hands on” maintenance activities while ensuring safe working practices, hold regular safety meetings and maximum productivity from the maintenance staff.


This is a camp based position with a shift schedule of 14 days on, 7 days off. Schedule can be further discussed during interview.

  • Provide directions to the unionized staff in in the operations, maintenance and repairs of the assigned portfolio.
  • Coordinate and direct technicians in the maintenance and repairs of building interiors and exteriors including but not limited to: finishing, ceilings, flooring and roofing; commercial kitchen appliances, HVAC Equipment (Hot water tanks, Boilers, AC, MUAs, Chillers and AHUs), recreational electronics, fire equipment, sports equipment, and backup generators.
  • Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues to the lodge Manager.
  • Assist with hiring of maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians
  • Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department
  • Hold and document all tool box talks for each shift, attend all Safety Committee meetings
  • Ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures
  • Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Be available to immediately respond to all critical and/or safety related maintenance concerns
  • Ensure job specific and safety training of subordinate employees
  • Train and direct all department workers, ensuring compliance with company and client safety requirements
  • Ensure staff compliance with all client and ATCO operating policies and procedures
  • Continually review services with the object of reducing cost and increasing productivity without loss of standard
  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and rotations to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained
  • Monitor the use of inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiate reordering when necessary
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards
  • Assists in preparing department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget
  • 24/7 available to respond to emergency calls
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager

  • P.Eng or C.E.T. designation with 5 years’ facilities maintenance management or Red Seal certification (only Master electrician or HVAC Journeyman) with 7-10 years of supervisory experience in facilities maintenance.
  • 5+ years’ experience of independent Contracts management is required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Knowledge of applicable maintenance standards and building codes and standards is required.
  • A Post-secondary diploma or a degree in Building Sciences or a BOMA and/or IFMA designation would be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of building systems and facilities operations and management.
  • Working on IBM’s Maximo will be an asset.
  • Ability to read blueprints and to interpret specifications
  • Must possess a well-developed technical proficiency in the multi-disciplinary technologies associated with facility management
  • Ability to influence with respect to the negotiation of contracts and resolution of contentious issues
  • Proven abilities in collaboration and relationship-building in complex environments with competing demands
  • Proven track record with forming and sustaining a diverse high performing team and implementing key programs and change initiatives
  • Effective communicator across the varied institutional constituency (written, oral and public presentations)
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter, and results oriented with the ability to excel in a fast paced and challenging environment.
  • Strong work ethic, detail oriented, willing and able to learn new skills and embrace change.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a Security Clearance Check.
